Gallery Talk Announcement
Misato Kurimune × Naoko Tosa
On the final day of Misato Kurimune’s solo exhibition
“What are we really looking at?”, to be held at TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY,
a gallery talk will be held in conjunction with the exhibition.
This exhibition begins with a fundamental question:
Is what we see truly there, or does the act of looking itself bring the image into being?
Through the relationship between viewpoint, body, perception, and image,
the exhibition explores how images emerge and fluctuate.
For this gallery talk, Kurimune welcomes Naoko Tosa,
an artist based in New York and Kyoto, whose practice spans
technology, sound, image, and spatial expression.
Tosa is known for proposing the concept of Cultural Computing,
which reinterprets traditional Japanese aesthetics through advanced technologies.
Her long-standing exploration of perception, sensation, and computational systems
resonates closely with the themes addressed in this exhibition.
Through conversation grounded in their respective practices,
the talk will reflect on how images come into being,
where perception begins and ends,
and how technology may intervene in—or expand—these processes.
Held within the exhibition space,
this gallery talk offers an opportunity to experience the works
from a different perspective, through shared reflection and dialogue.
